A UK-wide survey of more than 1,300 people, found that 62% of organisations are currently facing skills shortages, while this is down from 73% in 2023, the ongoing impacts are widespread, utilising digital skills can help to close this gap. Business Barometer June 2024.

Educational institutions in the UK are now using esports and gamification of learning to stimulate and engage young people to develop future ready skills. Students now choose schools that offer esports, either through curriculum such as the Level 2 and Level 3 BTECs in Esports, or through extra-curricular activities such as the British Esports Student Champs. Game titles such as Minecraft, Rocket League and Racing Simulators can now be found in the classroom and are used to deliver key educational learning objectives. Esports in education enables the development of a range of key transferable skills which can be applied across digital, creative and STEM industries, helping to bridge the digital skills divide.

Addressing regional and national challenges, this event will explore what we can do to close the digital skills gap that exists in businesses of every size, every sector, right across the UK. We will explore:

  • The digital skills gaps that exist across industries.
  • The relevance of esports in education and if the skills learned are relevant to the skills needed in a modern workplace.
  • The real-world career opportunities that can arise from possessing these skills.
  • What the esports industry can contribute to upskilling and reskilling people.
